Church Ministry Leaders

The Church Council is a "Big-Picture" body that coordinates implementation of ministries that advance the mission of Fair Oaks United Methodist Church. Church Council provides leadership and management for the ministires of the church. Leadership is the visionary work that assesses where the congregation is, where God is calling it to be in the future, and what resources will be required to move from current reality into the desired future. Management is the detail work that must be accomplished on a daily basis to make the ministries effective. Any significant change in the church mission, its outreach activities, or in the roles, duties and activities of the church committees and church staff members must be discussed with and approved by the Church Council. The Church Council Members include the chairs of all the committees and ministries of the church, the lay leader, the pastor, the council chair and members at large. Council meetings are open to all members of the congregation.
Pastor Parish Relations Committee

The Staff Parish Relation Committee (SPRC) is the administrative unit in a local church where staff and congregational interests come together to focus on the mission of the church. The committee builds relationships among members of the congregation and staff in an effort to support the mission and goals of the church. The SPRC serves as the church's human resources department and is involved in all personnel activities, including hiring and disciplinary actions. It assesses job performance of the staff and pastor. It also confers and consults with the district superintendent.
The SPRC members also assume the role of spiritual leaders for both lay and clergy to bring them together as servants of God. In this role the committee supports candidates for licensed and ordained ministry.

The Trustees of the church have two responsibilities:
1. Overseeing (not necessarily doing) maintenance and improvements of our buildings and ground, and
2. Evaluating any legal agreements or contracts and assessing our exposure to liability, as the legal officers of the church. Skills particularly needed for this team are:

Committee on Nominations and Leadership Development
Chair: Pastor Kim Montenegro Ex-officio: Lay Leader
The "Committee on Nominations and Leadership Development" was formerly referenced as the nominating committee or committee on lay leadership. This committee serves throughout the year to guide the Church Council on matters regarding the leadership of the congregation other than employed staff. This committee's work will recruit the gifted leaders for the lives of the church. These leaders will be representatives of the body of Christ in the faith community. Some will represent our congregation in the district and conference structures of The United Methodist Church as well.

The Finance Committee processes all money coming into the church and preschool(including activities such as fund raising and mission trips, and ensures that all outgoing money is monitored for accuracy and in the best interest of the church. The Committee, along with the Pastor, reviews reports on a weekly and annual basis and utilizes the information from those reports to prepare budgets and make spending recommendations to the Church Council. The Committee is also responsible for preparing annual giving statements for members and friends. People who assist the Finance team, but are not active on the Committee, include the bookkeeper, Sunday money counters, the Preschool Director, the Administrative Assistant and the Treasurer.

Our purpose is to provide CARE and LOVE for our congregation and community.
Our purpose is carried out by sending inspirational notes, cards, telephone calls; provide a listening ear, make home and hospital visits, initate email and telephone prayer chain and meail coordination, submit requests for Pastoral visits, take communion to shut-ins, and alert our Pastor of emergency telephone tree needs. All assistance is considered confidential.

Preschool Ministry - Little Methodist School

Endowment Fund Ministry

FOUMC ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE
What does the Endowment Committee do?
Establish and maintain the FOUMC Endowment Fund that was created to provide income, in perpetuity, or for a designated term, for use by the FOUMC Church.
Educate our members on the existence of the Fund.
Educate our members on the importance of having a will and/or a trust (estate planning).
Host a dinner fund raiser and educational seminars.
Emphasize the importance of planning for the needs of your family.
Encourage the support of God's work in the world, by giving to the Fund by means of wills, annuities, trusts, and other methods available.
Meetings – Endowment Committee usually meets one evening every other month.
Events – Endowment Committee typically hosts two events per year (a dinner fund raiser in January and an educational seminar later in the year).
Endowment gifts are unique acts of love and faith.
They connect us to the legacy of those who have come before us, and help us to leave our own
legacy for the future.
For many, stewardship only means giving money to the church, but it is so much more. Stewardship encompasses using all of the gifts God gives to people so that all can work toward the best purpose of God's church. Some of those gifts include teaching, speaking, singing, organizing, or being a litergist in addition to the giving of offerings. Each year the Finance Committee conducts a Stewardship Campaign by obtaining pledges from members and friends in an effort to project income so that budgeted expenses can balance. Some people choose to tithe to the church (to give one-tenth of annual income) while others prayerfully ask and listen to consider their pledge.

Is connecting with God through worship especially important to you? The Worship Committee helps develop the Sunday service, the use of audio and visual aids (including all the banners), and related activities. Its work is vital to the church.

Assist with name tags, welcoming folks to church, Coffee Fellowship, Events Coordinators, and updating membership files.
